Frequently Asked Questions
- What happens on the first appointment?
A full consultation will be made to establish the causes and what injury you have. This will be recorded on a client document form and will be used record your treatments and their progression. Some useful information that you need to bring are: G.P. contact address and phone numbers and medication details you maybe taking.
- How many treatments will I need?
This is a difficult question to answer as the nature, type and degree of injury will differ client to client and will inevitably reflect in the treatment time. For a relatively small injury anything from 3 to 6 treatments, for a larger more complex you can expect anything from 6 to 12+. But factors such as your body's reaction to treatment, compliance with exercises and advice adhered to feature highly in time scales.
- What if I'm already seeing an osteopath/ chiropractor?
Sports therapy is extremely effective in conjunction with other treatments and in most cases this leads to an accelerated recovery time. Just make sure that you advise all parties involved that you are receiving additional treatment.
- What should I wear to an appointment?
I need to be able to see not only the injured/effected area but also assess if the problem is related to other areas of the body. For the lower extremities shorts are preferred. For upper torso work, ladies are asked to wear a back fastening bra/ sports bra. If you have any queries ask when booking appointment.
- Can massage be harmful?
Massage is a non-invasive therapy. It generally is very safe, but there are a number of contraindications which you will be asked about in your initial consultation. If you are in doubt whether any condition of yours might be aggravated by massage, you should consult your G.P. or I can on your behalf.
